Plastic fold-up rain hats: Might they make a comeback?
At the football a couple of weeks ago, it started raining heavily and of course umbrellas are banned in most sports venues these days. The guy selling plastic ponchos with a life expectancy of about five minutes did a roaring trade, at five dollars each. But the lady sitting next to me had come prepared - she had a red nylon raincoat and she took a fold-up plastic rain bonnet out of the pocket and slipped it on. She was about 40 and quite attractive and the bonnet actually looked OK on her. She said she had picked up the coat and plastic hat for a total price of $1 at a charity shop five years ago and this was the only place she wore them, and they always kept her perfectly dry. And at least she didn't look like she belonged to the Ku Klutz Klan.
Those rainhats don't look anywhere near as bad as people make out and they have to be better than some of the alternatives. What do others think?
If famous and attractive people start wearing them, we're good to go.
I've thought about this recently as well, since the plastic rainhats really are useful. However, the granny stereotype might stay put for the fact that grannies want to protect their fuzzy hair that they get done every Thursday and don't wash in between.
Us younglings actually wash our hair, and don't need as much protection, especially when we've got hoodies and things.
