how many shovels of dirt would it take to create a trench 1 foot wide, by 3 feet long, by 6 feet deep?
Assume that the small tools issued by the military took 20 shovelfuls of dirt to create a 1 cubic foot hole.
a) how many shovels of dirt would it take to create a trench 1 foot wide, by 3 feet long, by 6 feet deep?
b) if a person could dig 4 shovels of dirt a minute, how long would it take to dig a hole 1'x3'x6'?
c) how many shovels of dirt would it take to dig a trench 3 feet across by 6 feet deep by 1 mile (5,280 feet) long?
d) how long would it take one person to dig this trench?
e) how many people would it take to dig the above trench in an hour?
f) how many people would it take if each person dug for 8 hours?
g) how many shovels of dirt would it take to dig a trench 3 feet across, by 6 feet deep, by 400 miles long?
h) how long would it take one person to dig this trench?
Please help me. I really don't know how to do this. And please show your work.
This is a volume question. Length x width x heigt. Your lucky that the width is only 1 foot (I jest). Any ways, 1x3x6=18 cubic ft in the first trench. Since the shovel take 20 scoops to remove 1ft^3 (cubic foot) and you have 18ft^3 to move, it goes 18 x 20=360 shovel full. The rest is up to you now that I got you started. I don't want to just 'give' you the answers.
