Walking Trekking
Trekking pole?
My father would like to get one to help w/ his walking as he has some health problems with his feet and legs. What is a good trekking pole that is effective, durable and will last but is not extremely expensive?
What are the average costs of one?
I have a pair I bought from REI (REI.com) about 8 years ago. They are REI's brand but made by Komperdell. What I like is there is a lower grip so if you are going up a steep trial you don't have to adjust the length. They go for somewhere around $100 a pair. Now if you really want to economize, try second hand stores and look for ski poles. The proper length is measured from hand to ground with the forearm parallel to the ground. You can get cheap poles at discount stores but be very careful as the compression fittings that adjust the length can fail and that would cause a fall. Better to have poles that don't adjust than ones that fail.
